Cape Jervis - Burra
Today we are changing into travel mode, as we head for home. Our route will take us back north through central SA then across the border to Broken Hill and the Menindee Lakes. There will be little time for sightseeing except for what we encounter on the roadside. Our first overnight will be at Burra...
You can never have enough old homesteads…
or wedgetails either…

Out of Burra early. It is a long, long way to Menindee via Broken Hill...

Day 56 - 31st March
Menindee - Broken Hill - Cobar
Had planned to stay at Menindee for two nights but the area is quite depressing and even more so with the water level so low. Also after recent rain all the gravel/dirt roads are closed. So we decided to take off to Cobar after we had a quick look at the Darling River in Menindee...
Sunrise over the lake…
We had the whole caravan park to ourselves, not that it is that great…
The Daring River at Menindee…
The channel from the Darling River into the Menindee Lake…
We spent a few days in Broken Hill back in 2010. But we still had a bit of a look around and stocked up on fuel and supplies...

The Broken Hill landscape is a bit more interesting than the wide open plains that surround it...

For the next 500km there were always goats on the roadside…
Thankfully we finally realised the goats had very good road sense and we did not slow down as we passed them. It was slow going at first until we worked it out…
…
Trees trimmed to the height the goats can reach standing on their back legs…
Day 57 - 1st April
Cobar - Nyngan - Gilgandra - Coonabarabran
Up early and on the road at sunrise from Cobar. Today we are heading east across central NSW to Coonabarabran...
…

Day 58 - 2nd April
Coonabarabran - Gunnedah - Tamworth - Armidale
A few days earlier there had been heavy rain across the region. In Coonabarabran where we camped last night the rain started overnight. We were worried we might not get out of the park. ...
At Gunnedah we found a great bakery for our breakfast goodies and parked up beside the Silo. The text is from “I Love A Sunburnt Country” by Dorothea Mackellar…
With all the rain the creeks and gullies have a good run in them. In the hills the waterfalls are flowing…
A deer was wandering around the Armidale caravan park…
Day 59 - 3rd April
Armidale - Tenterfield
Today we travelled to Tenterfield. It is still raining and the ground is sodden. We had lunch at the Corner Cafe and Jenelle did some shopping at a Sherelle's boutique...
Day 60 - 4th April
